Legal fees cut for insurers - ITIJ 112

Judge's gavelA recent innovation by Costas Andrea of Global Recoveries Limited claims to help insurers deal with international third party recoveries in-house. Traditionally, where an insurer has a potential recovery abroad, the case is sent to UK solicitors, who in turn instruct foreign lawyers. The insurer, therefore, pays two lots of legal fees – the UK lawyers’ and the foreign lawyers’.
In his latest offering, Costas provides clients with access to a global network of lawyers, built up over 20 years. Most are exactly the same ones currently used by UK solicitors and all are used to dealing with recovery claims and insurer clients. Language is not a problem, as all correspond in English. In-house training of staff is provided and a rolling training scheme implemented, which includes presentations by visiting foreign lawyers. Any increase in staff costs is dwarfed by the huge savings on legal fees. Back-up is also provided to help with those problem cases or difficult jurisdictions.
