Issue 107 : Rule change for international students Bookmark/Share

In a move that mirrors many others already taken across the US, the University of Washington (UW) is overhauling how its students and professors interface with foreign countries – the rule change is a reaction to the continuing case of an American student, Amanda Knox, who is being held in Italy charged with alleged murder.
As a result of the ongoing murder case, international education officials across the US are more closely tracking who, where and what study-abroad programmes involve, with rules at UW now stating that the department chair must sign off an international study-abroad scheme and travel health insurance is mandatory, as is a mobile phone.
